Google Ads is the fastest way to find out whether your website works. Unfortunately, it is also an expensive way to find out.
Organic traffic arrives slowly, so a weak page loses visitors quietly over months. Paid traffic arrives in volume immediately, and every lost visitor has a price attached. If your site converts poorly, ads do not fix it. They simply make the leak visible and costly.
Here is what to fix first.
In short
- Ads amplify whatever your website already does. A weak page just loses visitors faster, at a price per click.
- Send each ad group to a matching page, not the homepage.
- Set up conversion tracking before the first rupee of spend, not after three months.
- Paid leads go cold fastest. Decide who answers, and how quickly, before launch.
1. Send Traffic to the Right Page
The most common waste in Indian PPC accounts is sending every ad to the homepage. Someone searching for CNC machining services should land on a page about CNC machining, not on a homepage listing eight capabilities.
If a dedicated page does not exist, build it before the campaign starts. This one change usually improves conversion more than any bidding adjustment.
2. Match the Page to the Promise
If the ad mentions same-day delivery, those words should appear near the top of the landing page. Visitors arrive with a specific expectation and leave within seconds if they cannot see it confirmed.
This also affects cost. Google rewards relevance between the search, the ad and the page, which means a matched page typically costs less per click than a generic one.
3. Fix Mobile Load Time
A large share of paid traffic in India is mobile, often on patchy connections. A page that takes more than three or four seconds is losing a meaningful percentage of visitors you have already paid for.
Compress images, remove unnecessary scripts and test on mobile data rather than office wifi.
4. Make Contact Effortless
Paid visitors have lower patience than organic ones. A tappable phone number, a WhatsApp button and a short form should all be visible without scrolling far. Long forms belong later in the process, not on a landing page.
5. Set Up Conversion Tracking Properly
Running ads without tracking calls, form submissions and WhatsApp clicks means you are optimising blind. You will not know which keywords produce business, only which produce clicks.
Set this up before the campaign starts, not after three months of spending, or you lose the data from the period you paid most to learn from.
6. Answer the Objections on the Page
Every category has two or three standard hesitations: price uncertainty, delivery timelines, minimum order quantities, whether you serve their city, whether you handle their scale. Answer them on the page.
A visitor who cannot resolve a doubt does not call to ask. They go back to the results and click a competitor.
7. Decide Who Answers, and How Fast
Paid leads go cold faster than any other kind, because the person is actively comparing options at that moment. If your enquiries are answered the next working day, you are funding your competitors’ shortlists.
Agree internally who responds, on which channel, and within what time, before the campaign goes live.
Where the Money Usually Leaks
Beyond the page itself, three settings waste more Indian ad budget than anything else. Broad match keywords without a negative keyword list, which buys clicks for searches unrelated to what you sell. Location targeting left at the default, which quietly includes people merely interested in your area rather than in it. And campaigns running twenty-four hours when nobody answers the phone after eight.
None of these are website problems, but they compound the same weakness: paying for visitors who were never going to become customers. Check all three before raising a budget.
When Ads Are the Wrong Choice Entirely
Ads suit businesses where someone is actively searching for what you sell and can act quickly. They suit poorly where the purchase is rare, the decision takes months and involves several people, or where your differentiator only becomes clear in a long conversation.
For some B2B and industrial businesses, the same budget spent on better product pages, a proper catalogue and consistent outreach produces more enquiries than paid search ever will. That is not an argument against ads, it is an argument for checking whether your buyers are actually searching before you assume they are.
At INR 50,000 a month and INR 40 per click, a 1% conversion rate gives about twelve enquiries at INR 4,000 each. At 3%, it gives thirty-seven at roughly INR 1,350 each. Nothing about the campaign changed in that example, only the website.
A Quick Check Before You Launch
- Does each ad group have a matching landing page?
- Does the page repeat the promise from the ad?
- Does it load in under three seconds on mobile data?
- Are call, WhatsApp and form options visible immediately?
- Is conversion tracking live and tested?
- Are the top three objections answered on the page?
- Does someone answer enquiries within the hour?
If you cannot tick all seven, fix that before increasing the budget. The cheapest improvement in any ad account is usually on the website, not in the campaign settings.
Start Small and Prove It
If you have never run ads, resist launching six campaigns across every service. Pick the single service with the clearest buying intent and the best margin, build one properly matched landing page, run it for six weeks with tracking in place, and see what a lead actually costs.
That number is the only honest basis for deciding whether to scale, and it costs a fraction of what most businesses spend learning the same thing across a scattered account.
What This Is Worth in Money
Consider a business spending INR 50,000 a month at an average cost per click of INR 40. That is 1,250 clicks. At a conversion rate of one percent, twelve enquiries, so each costs about INR 4,000. At three percent, thirty-seven enquiries at roughly INR 1,350 each.
Nothing about the campaign changed in that example. Only the website did. That is why the sequence matters: fix the page, then buy the traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should we run ads and SEO at the same time?
They work well together. Ads give immediate visibility and data on which searches convert, and that data makes SEO targeting far more accurate.
What is a reasonable starting budget in India?
It depends entirely on cost per click in your category, which varies from a few rupees to several hundred. Work backwards from what a customer is worth to you rather than picking a round monthly figure.
Do we need separate landing pages for ads?
Dedicated pages usually convert better because they remove distractions and match the ad exactly. Well-structured service pages can work if they are focused enough.
How long before we know if ads are working?
Usually four to six weeks with adequate volume, provided conversion tracking is in place from day one. Without tracking, you will still not know after six months.
Is it worth advertising if our website is old?
Only if the pages load quickly and make contact easy. Otherwise you are paying to send people to a page that was already losing visitors for free.
